PERCUSSION INSTRUCTOR

MING YANG

Ming Yang is a Taiwanese percussionist and educator currently based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. She specializes in keyboard, classical, contemporary, and chamber percussion. After receiving her M.M. in marimba performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, she

relocated to Texas and is now pursuing a doctoral degree in percussion performance at the University of North Texas (UNT). With over 10 years of experience teaching percussion and piano, Ming has worked with students of all ages and levels. Her goal as an educator is to make sure all her students feel safe and supported in her classroom. She believes that both music and education are powerful

tools for connection, expression, and growth.

Ming has performed with several different professional orchestras. During her time in Taiwan, she served four years as a percussionist for the Philharmonia Moments Musicaux. As a solo musician, Ming has competed internationally—most notably placing 3rd in the 2017 Australian Marimba Competition. She has participated in several festivals in countries including Japan, France, Taiwan, and China, and has performed with leading artists and musicians such as Keiko Abe, Anders Åstrand, JB Leclere, and Isao Nakamura.

Ming is passionate about sharing music from her culture, as her roots have always been her artistic drive. She has commissioned several solo marimba pieces based on folk songs from Taiwan or her own stories from Asian composers. These include Percubo (2019), Egret (2022),

Ocean (2022), and 2300 (2022).
