CELLO INSTRUCTOR

Hua Huang

Huang began studying the cello at the age of six with Enwei Gu of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. He later moved to Beijing to attend the Central Conservatory of Music

Middle School, studying under Professors Jia Yu and Mingqing Yu. His training continued at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California with Yao Zhao, Principal Cellist of the San Diego

Symphony Orchestra. Hua received his Bachelor’s degree in cello performance from the Meadows School of Arts at Southern Methodist University, where he studied in the studio of Professor Andres Diaz.

Throughout his studies, Hua earned recognition in multiple international competitions, including the Ai Qin Prize, the Chamber Music Competition at the Central Conservatory of

Music, the Concerto Competition at Idyllwild Arts Academy, the Great Composer Series Competition, and the 1st Schoenfield International Competition. His performance was

selected to be a podcast on the NPR series ‘From the Top’. He has also participated in masterclasses with distinguished cellists such as Liwei Qin, Bonian Tian, Jacob Shaw, Andres

Diaz, Johannes Moser, and Lynn Harrell.

 

As both a chamber musician and soloist, Hua has performed in numerous concerts alongside renowned musicians including Aaron Boyd, Andres Cardenes, Paul Neubauer, Emanuel Borok, Wei Lu, Andres Diaz, Chad Hoopes, the Escher Quartet, the Viano Quartet, and musicians of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

 

In addition to his performing career, Hua has years of teaching experience, working with students from young beginners to adults. He is well versed in major method books as well as a wide range of solo and orchestral repertoire.
