CHEN-HONG SHI
Chenhong Shi is a double bassist from China, currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of North Texas under Dr. Gudrun Raschen. She received her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Timothy Cobb, Principal Bass of the New York Philharmonic, and her Bachelor of Music degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where she served as Principal Bass of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra. Shi has held key orchestral positions including Co-Principal Bass of the Manhattan School of Music Orchestra and has performed widely with ensembles such as the China Film Orchestra, Beijing City Symphony, Jin Haiyin String Orchestra, and New Jiuzhou Wind Orchestra. His performance highlights include Mahler’s Symphony No. 7, Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, and Respighi’s Pines of Rome, as well as appearances on national broadcasts such as CCTV’s Youth Day Special Program. She was also invited to perform at major cultural events, including the 2020 League of Legends World Championship Music Festival and the Bilibili New Year’s Gala. Alongside his active performing career, Shi is an experienced educator, having taught double bass and coached student orchestras at leading Beijing schools including Tsinghua University High School, Renmin University Elementary School, and Beijing Jingshan School. Her teaching has guided young musicians in performances of classic operatic and symphonic works, fostering both technical development and ensemble collaboration.
